I have some knee problems and have had planter fascitis in the past so anything too jarring is out for me. What are some exercises which can get me going without being too much for this body?

Water training is good. Do you swim or have you tried a water aerobics class? It takes a lot of the strain off of the body. Maybe pilates or yoga? It isn't too jarring.

Cycling can also be ok for those with knee problems. Swimming and yoga are good as well.

ever tried the eliptical? this is fabulous for the knees. high energy cardio activity with no hard impacts. it's smooth and like riding a bike but standing. maybe this will help with yuor knees.

i agree about the eliptical. it doesn't give you that hard impact on the joints. if you can ride a bike you'll like it. do you like to lift weights? there are great toning exercises and you can omit the knees.

But what would you do about the lower body? I would hate to think that someone is lifting and getting really toned on top but ignoring the bottome part. I guess that is where the eliptical trainer comes in?

With my knees I alternate focus groups to alleviate extra stresses. it works well when I round it out. Five years post surgery and I still run (though 8miles week max, I mean really max!). I still like to feel everything moving and starining a little. MODERATION, good stretching and long cool downs.
