For so many years I never wanted to smile and show my teeth because they were yellow. I then heard about trays for bleaching teeth a few years back and had my dentist make some for me. Bleaching my teeth has made me so much kore confident about my smile. Have any of you tried this method or some of the laser or over the counter options which are available?

My brother had the laser done and his teeth just shine, but maybe a little too much? And now he has to be very careful with foods like red wine, coffee and blueberries because he is so worried about permanent stains again! I think I would like the at home option and that way you could touch up whenever you needed to.

i've tried the crest white stripes and they worked great. i'm not a smoker and don't drink coffee but dentist said my diet sodas were probably to cause for my "off white" teeth. the crest stripes i got were from the dentist office and a stronger strenght than at stores. however don't need prescription for them, just ask at the dentist. i liked them, no sensitivity. did it for 4 weeks.

Great idea. The laser teeth brightening is way too much I think. You can spot it a million miles away. In the colonial times they used urine to whiten their teeth. Hooray for modern times!!

It was before the colonial times (there are some great cartoons making fun of potty mouths). Ancient Romans inported it is.

I had to add to this!

Check out this lovely poem:

Teeth whitening

In Roman times, there was a tradition among the Gauls to use urine to whiten teeth. A famous poem by the Roman poet Catullus, criticizing a Gaul named Egnatius, reads:
Egnatius, because he has snow-white teeth,
smiles all the time. If you’re a defendant

in court, when the counsel draws tears,

he smiles: if you’re in grief at the pyre

of pious sons, the lone lorn mother weeping,

he smiles. Whatever it is, wherever it is,

whatever he’s doing, he smiles: he’s got a disease,

neither polite, I would say, nor charming.

So a reminder to you, from me, good Egnatius.

If you were a Sabine or Tiburtine

or a fat Umbrian, or plump Etruscan,

or dark toothy Lanuvian, or from north of the Po,

and I’ll mention my own Veronese too,

or whoever else clean their teeth religiously,

I’d still not want you to smile all the time:

there’s nothing more foolish than foolishly smiling.

Now you’re Spanish: in the country of Spain

what each man pisses, he’s used to brushing

his teeth and red gums with, every morning,

so the fact that your teeth are so polished

just shows you’re the more full of piss.

Sorry if this offends! I think it's very funny people have ALWAYS tried to have whiter smiles!

That is too funny- I will have to share this with my "vain" brother who did the laser whitening and get back to the important stuff in life!

I can't wait to share with a few vain friends too. It's not that all people who do this are vain? It's like getting braces for crooked teeth. No real health benefit, but it does make you feel better when you smile at yourself in the mirror.

I had no idea my teeth whitening poem would be so well-received. I've giggled to myself several times since posting it. Isn't it funny that even the ancient Romans made fun of their fcontemporaries too?
