I have done some reading lately which suggests that Americans are seriously Vitamin D deficient because of our sunscreens! We are all trying to take better care of our skin and unintentionally blocking out the suns rays which by the way is one of our easiest sources of Vitamin D. I heard a dr on the Today show say the all we need per day is 10 minutes of sunlight per day w/o sunscreen to help alleviate these deficiencies.

that is very interesting but kind of goes back to scaring you about the risk for skin cancer! I am very fair so I wear sunscreen summer and winter- I love to be outside but not without my SPF protection. Maybe I will rethink this and let my skin get some Vitamin D without sunscreen blocking the way for a few minutes at least every day.

I love my daily dose of vitamin D. My daughter and I go outside and play! We chose our times wisely . . not between 10 and 2, even in the winter. It is brisk right now, but you can smell spring in the air!

do you always wear sunscreen or do you allow for a little time to have the suns rays penetrate the skin without the sunscreen barrier? I try to wear sunscreen all of the time but try to balance that with times without it to make the most of my outside time and the benefits of the sun.
